Newcastle United establish contact over Moise Kean move

Newcastle United will aim to beat Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur to 25-year-old Italian international Moise Kean from Serie A club Fiorentina in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Moise Kean is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies have contacted the Fiorentina striker’s representatives over a possible move in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the Italian international has a release clause worth €52 million in his contract with La Viola, with Arsenal and Tottenham also keen on signing him.

Moise Kean and his resurgence

Moise Kean has established himself as one of the best strikers in Serie A since joining Fiorentina from Juventus last summer. The highly-rated attacker struggled to make his mark for several years after graduating from the youth division at the Turin club. However, he has not looked back since moving to the Artemio Franchi Stadium.

The 25-year-old has contributed to 25 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions, finding the back of the net 22 times and providing three assists. Meanwhile, Kean’s progress in the 2024/25 season has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Premier League bigwigs, in particular, are keen on signing him, with Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United among his prospective suitors.

A man in demand

Arsenal will likely dip into the market for a striker in the summer transfer window after Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz’s struggles in front of the goal in the 2024/25 season. So, Kean has emerged as a viable target for Arsenal. The Gunners should have the funds to trigger the release clause of €52 million in the Italian striker’s contract with Fiorentina.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Moise Kean is understandable. The North London club signed Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth last summer. However, the English international has struggled with injuries this season, and Ange Postecoglou needs more firepower in the final third.

As for Newcastle United, Callum Wilson will likely depart from St. James’ Park in the summer transfer window. So, the Tyneside club will likely dip into the market for a striker, and they have contacted the Fiorentina striker’s representatives to discuss a possible summer move.

Arsenal, Tottenham, and Newcastle United should have the funds to afford a deal worth €52 million to sign the Fiorentina striker. In addition, they can easily hike his €2.2 million-a-year wages. So, it will be interesting to see if Newcastle United can beat the competition to his signature in the coming months.
