Liverpool plot player-plus-cash move for Alexander Isak

Arne Slot’s Liverpool are looking to put forward a player-plus-cash deal to sign Arsenal striker target Alexander Isak.

Alexander Isak’s consistent performances for Newcastle United have put him on the radar of quite a few top clubs in the country. The Magpies are well aware of the increasing interest in their star striker and are gearing up to listen to offers for the Swedish international this summer.

Liverpool and Arsenal are among the front-runners for his signature, and they could certainly test Newcastle’s resolve once the window reopens. According to Keith Wyness via Football Insider, the Merseyside club could look to offer a player plus cash to sign the former Real Sociedad star.

Jarell Quansah has been linked with Newcastle of late, and the former Everton chief believes the Reds could look to make him a part of any potential deal.

While speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness said: “If there is going to be a deal for Isak, I believe there will be some player swaps from whatever club comes in for him.

“If it’s Liverpool putting a bid in, that will definitely be part of it.

“But with Quansah, I don’t know if he’s the one they will want – I have no idea.

“Newcastle may have to refresh their defence, there is a need – but there are questions about Quansah.

“I always worried about clubs offering players as swaps, because you’ve got to wonder why they are prepared to let him go.

“Unless it’s a player you’ve identified as one you want, then I would be questioning it.

“I don’t think Quansah is the right situation for Newcastle, and I think Isak may end up staying at Newcastle – but this summer will be fascinating.

“The clubs are bunching up from third to tenth – everyone wants to go forward.

Liverpool to go after the signature of Isak

Arne Slot wants to bring in a new number nine this summer. The Dutch manager is not satisfied with the performances of the current forwards, sparking speculation around Darwin Nunez’s future. The club are considering offloading him in favour of signing a top world-class striker.

With Mohamed Salah’s future also uncertain, they want to ensure they sign someone who can guarantee goals up top. Slot has his eyes set on Isak, and he considers him a perfect fit for his system. He is a proven Premier League star, and the Reds are willing to go hard for his signature.

Wyness has suggested that the Merseyside club will certainly look for a player-plus-cash deal as it will help them lower the cost of the operation. They could look to offer Jarell Quansah as the Magpies seek more quality and depth at the back, and they seem to be interested in the 22-year-old.

While he is not a regular under Slot, he did get a call-up to the England national team, which suggests he certainly has it in him to succeed in the English top flight. Even though the former Everton chief isn’t entirely sure about Quansh being an ideal fit for the Newcastle project, it will be interesting to see how things pan out in the summer.

Meanwhile, Arsenal could also end up making a move for the 25-year-old striker. The Gunners want a world-class striker to lead the line as Mikel Arteta looks to end their wait for major silverware. He wants an upgrade on Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz, and Isak is believed to be quite high on their wishlist.

While Wyness did suggest that there is a lot of interest in Isak and that Liverpool could look for a swap deal, he feels the Swedish striker might end up staying at the Tyneside club at the end. Newcastle certainly do not want to lose out on him, so it won’t be that big of a surprise.
