Manchester United target Eberechi Eze is keen on joining Tottenham, while Crystal Palace are determined to keep hold of him.
According to Mick Brown via Football Insider, Eberechi Eze would be open to a move to Tottenham, but it won’t be that straightforward as Crystal Palace will try their best to keep him at the club. Meanwhile, Manchester United have also been linked with the English international, and they could look to try their luck this summer.
While speaking to Football Insider about the future of the 26-year-old, Brown said: “I’ve got a lot of admiration for Crystal Palace,”
“They’ve recruited well, have a good strong core of players and they get the best out of them.
“But the question now is, how many of those players are Palace going to lose?
“It looks like Marc Guehi will leave, then there’s interest in Wharton, Mateta, Munoz and now Eze.
“In every team, you’ve got somebody a bit special who can produce a bit of magic and win you a game pretty much on their own.
“We talk about Bruno Fernandes at Man United, Marcus Rashford at Villa, Alexander Isak at Newcastle, and at Palace that player is Eze.
“If they can get the ball into him often enough, he can do something nobody else in that side can.
“It’s because of that they’re determined to keep him at the club, he’s a difference maker and they’d miss him if he left the club this summer.
“They want to keep him and I don’t expect he’s the type of player to force through a move unless Palace’s asking price is met.
“Tottenham have been interested for a long time and he’s their type of player.
“If Eze has the opportunity to move to a team like Tottenham, I think he would be open to that, and it’s not slight on Palace and what they’ve done.
“So that move wouldn’t surprise me, but it will only be on Palace’s terms and they want to keep him.”
Eze has only gone from strength to strength since joining the Eagles in the summer of 2020. He has been one of their mainstays over the past few seasons. He remains a key part of Oliver Glasner’s plans moving ahead.
Will Eze move to Tottenham?
The 26-year-old was on the wishlist of quite a few top clubs last summer as well, but he ended up staying at Palace. They will hope he continues at Selhurst Park amidst interest from rivals Tottenham.
The North London club have a long-standing interest in him. Ange Postecoglou is a huge admirer of the English international and believes he could solve quite a few of their problems. Not only can he help replace Son Heung-min in the long run, but he could even compete with James Maddison for a place in the starting XI.
Spurs will look to make a move for him in the summer, and according to Brown, Eze would be open to the idea of joining them. However, he won’t look to force his way out and will only leave in a situation where his £68 million release clause has been triggered.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace will look to keep him at the club as he is one of their most important players. If they want to battle it out with the best teams in the country, they do need players like him who can decide games on their own. As a result, any potential deal will depend on the Eagles and Spurs’ willingness to fork out a big fee.
Manchester United have also been linked with the 26-year-old. They seek more creativity in the final third, and the versatile Eze could be a great addition to their squad. With Bruno Fernandes’ future uncertain, he could be the perfect replacement. However, the financial side of things could prove to be a big hurdle for the Red Devils as well.
