Borussia Dortmund struggles could seal Jamie Gittens exit

Tottenham Hotspur could have an opportunity to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens amid the Bundesliga club’s struggles.

According to Sport BILD via Sport Witness, Borussia Dortmund’s struggles could open the door for Tottenham to sign Jamie Gittens this summer. The North London club have been linked with the English youth international of late, and they could finally have the opportunity to acquire his services.

While things did not work out for Gittens at Manchester City, he made the move to Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2020. The Englishman went up the ranks at some pace and got promoted to the German club’s first team in 2022.

The 20-year-old winger has established himself as a key figure in the team. Overall, he has featured in 99 matches for them, and 41 of those appearances have come in the ongoing campaign. In just over 2,500 minutes of first-team action, the young winger has contributed towards 15 goals this term.

His performances have put him on the radar of quite a few top clubs. While there is no shortage of interest in Jamie Gittens, Borussia Dortmund are reluctant to sell the English youth international. But the Bundesliga giants might not have any options to pay with if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

With seven games to go, they are seven points behind the team in fourth. It certainly won’t be easy, and this ‘sporting failure’ could force them to sell quite a few of their stars. Gittens is one of the players who won’t be willing to accept the lack of UEFA Champions League football, and the club might need to part ways with him to raise funds for the summer window.

Tottenham can sign Gittens this summer

His agents are already working towards a transfer, and Tottenham have emerged as a potential destination for the 20-year-old. The North London club have been linked with Jamie Gittens on quite a few occasions in the recent past. Ange Postecoglou seeks more firepower in the final third, and Gittnes could be a great acquisition in the long run.

With uncertainty surrounding Timo Werner and Richarlison‘s futures, Gittens could be the ideal solution. Borussia Dortmund will try their best to keep him at the club, but they will struggle if they don’t have UEFA Champions League football. They will be looking to raise a minimum of €60 million from the departure of the young English sensation.

While Borussia Dortmund’s struggles have opened the doors for Tottenham, it will be interesting to see if Daniel Levy is willing to fork out that big a fee on someone.
