Manchester United eyeing Mikel Damsgaard as Bruno Fernandes replacement

Manchester United are interested in acquiring the services of Brentford star Mikel Damsgaard as they look for a potential Bruno Fernandes replacement.

According to the Daily Mirror via Fichajes, Manchester United are keen on signing Mikel Damsgaard as they look to prepare for life without Bruno Fernandes. The United skipper has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, and the Red Devils have already started looking at potential options who can succeed him at Old Trafford.

Damsgaard made a name for himself at Sampdoria before making the move to Brentford in the summer of 2022. He has only gone from strength to strength over the years and has established himself as a key figure in the team.

He has been in top form this season, having contributed towards 12 goals (2 goals, 10 assists) in his 29 league outings. His performances haven’t gone unnoticed, as Manchester United seem keen on adding him to their squad.

While the Red Devils will look to further bolster their squad in the summer, they might even end up parting ways with Bruno Fernandes, who has been one of their standout players over the last few seasons. The 30-year-old attacking midfielder is one of the first names on their team sheet under Ruben Amorim.

He has featured in a total of 44 matches and has contributed towards 32 goals (16 goals, 16 assists). While Amorim wants him around at all costs, there are doubts over his continuity at the club as Real Madrid are interested in signing him.

United to push for Damsgaard

Los Blancos could end up making a big-money offer in the coming months, and given United’s financial difficulties, they might end up considering it. As a result, the club wants to be prepared for a situation where their skipper ends up leaving.

They have already looked at potential replacements, and Damsgaard is believed to be quite high on their wishlist. He stands out for his technique and creativity in the final third. Since he is only 24, he is a perfect fit for their project that focuses on building a team for the long run.

The Danish international’s contract at Brentford runs until the summer of 2030, as a result, they will certainly demand a massive fee to sanction the departure of one of their best players.
