Joan Garcia could be made available for €15 million should Espanyol suffer relegation this season, which could boost the chances of interested clubs.
According to Eldes Marque, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona could have the chance to sign Joan Garcia for €15 million on a certain condition. The goalkeeper’s release clause could be significantly reduced if Espanyol suffers relegation from La Liga this season, as the keeper is thought to be open to leaving the Catalan side.
Joan Garcia is on the list of half of Europe, and the keeper is likely to move out of Espanyol one way or another. For the time being the Spanish side are adamant that interested parties pay his €25 million release clause, which could increase to €30 million should they stay in La Liga and the stopper get a Spain call-up.
However, should Espanyol suffer relegation this season, his asking price would be significantly reduced to €15 million, which will suit a lot of his suitors. Real Madrid and Barcelona are already among those interested, while Manchester United are also among those keen on the La Liga goalkeeper.
Garcia is open to a Premier League move, although should he receive decent proposals both from the financial and sporting side in Spain, he might stay put in La Liga. The story revolves around how he could be signed for a lesser fee, as none of the interested teams are offering him an immediate starting position in their respective team.
For instance, Real Madrid have Thibaut Courtois as their starting keeper, although the situation at Barcelona might be a bit more open. The latter being the local rivals of Espanyol makes the matter all the more complicated although Hansi Flick’s side can trigger his release clause worth €25 million or €30 million depending on Espanyol’s status in the summer and sign Garcia.
Joan Garcia bound for the Premier League?
Manchester United’s interest is a peculiar one, considering they are not as strongly linked with the keeper as some of their Premier League rivals. Arsenal have been leading the race for some time now, with Mikel Arteta specifically pushing to bring the La Liga goalkeeper to the Emirates since last summer.
Manchester City are also thought to be considering a move, although the €25 million release clause is seen as too high for most clubs given they all view him as a second-choice stopper in the team. In any case, for €15 million, provided Espanyol gets relegated, many of the interested clubs will view this sum as reasonable for the La Liga goalkeeper.
