Arsenal have reached an agreement with talented Colombian goalkeeper Alexei Rojas to continue at the club as he is ready to fight for a place in the first team.
According to AS Colombia, Arsenal have managed to keep hold of youth goalkeeper Alexei Rojas to continue at the club, with the aim of getting him in the first team for the 2025/26 season.
Alexei Rojas has been one of the rising stars for Colombia over the last year, featuring heavily in the South American Under-20 youth championship and was one of their top performers. There were rumours that the goalkeeper was on his way out of the club, having come through the ranks at the north London side.
He did feature once in the first team setup, although remained an unused substitute in the EFL Cup tie against Bolton Wanderers. Beyond that, he is barely made the move to the first team so far this season and might stay on the periphery for the time being.
However, the Gunners have managed to renew his deal at the club, with the report stating will last until the end of the 2025/26 season. Meanwhile, Rojas is targetting a place in Mikel Arteta’s first team set up in the coming period, and ideally, he wants to feature for the senior side next season.
Arsenal’s goalkeeping plans for next season
Arsenal are planning to improve their goalkeeping ranks ahead of the summer. This season they had to heavily rely on David Raya, with Neto not seen as someone to fill in the role in times of need. The Gunners sold Asron Ramsdale at the end of last summer’s window, which did create a void in the positions between the sticks.
Arsenal are interested in Joan Garcia, as they were last summer, although Espanyol did not cave into their bid for the Spanish stopper. Garcia could be signed for less than his release clause if Espanyol suffers relegation this summer, which might see the Gunners return for the keeper.
Meanwhile, Rojas will face plenty of competition for places, and his target of making it to the first team will be challenging especially if Arsenal ends up signing a new backup keeper to Raya. Even in the lower levels, there is competition for places from Tommy Setford, meaning, if Rojas cannot find a place in the first team next season, he is more likely to depart the club in 2026 or even earlier.
