Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United are pushing to sign Sporting CP defensive sensation Goncalo Inacio this summer.
According to A Bola via SportWitness, Manchester United are interested in the services of Goncalo Inacio, and they could push to reunite the Portuguese international with his former boss Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.
Inacio has come up the ranks at Sporting CP. He got promoted to their first team back in the summer of 2020 and has only gone from strength to strength since. The 23-year-old has established himself as a key figure in the Portuguese club and has been a regular feature in their national team of late.
While his contract at Sporting runs until the summer of 2027, he looks set for a move to a bigger club this summer. The young defender has constantly been linked with a move to Manchester United. The major reason behind those links is Ruben Amorim’s move to Old Trafford.
The Portuguese manager was the one who gave Inacio an opportunity in the first team. The duo had a lot of success together, and with United keen on defensive reinforcement, the 23-year-old has been linked with a move to the Manchester-based club.
United could raid Sporting for Inacio
With Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof’s future uncertain, the Red Devils do need more depth at the back. They want to bring in a young defender who can help them in the short as well as long run. Inacio seems to be an ideal fit for their project, and having thrived under Amorim at Sporting, he is a genuine target for United.
The Premier League giants have been keeping a close eye on him for some time. They have repeatedly been on the verge of turning their interest in something concrete. While it hasn’t happened thus far, things could fall into place this summer, as United do need more quality at the back.
Having worked with him at Sporting, Amorim might recommend his name to the board to bolster their backline. Meanwhile, the player is represented by their skipper Bruno Fernandes’ agent, which is a massive boost in their pursuit.
As far as the Portuguese outfit are concerned, they are ready to sanction his departure as long as their demands of €45 million are met. While there is interest in the services of Ousmane Diomande as well, Sporting won’t mind selling both their starting centre-backs as long as they get the right price.
