Everton will reportedly plot a double raid on EFL Championship club Sunderland to sign Chris Rigg and Dan Neil in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Chris Rigg and Dan Neil are the subjects of interest from Everton. The Toffees are scouring the market for versatile midfielders heading into the summer transfer window. So, the Sunderland duo has emerged as targets for the Merseyside outfit, although they will face stiff competition for Rigg from Manchester United and West Ham United.
Chris Rigg and Dan Neil: Taking the EFL Championship by storm
Chris Rigg has established himself as one of the most highly sought-after prospects in England since breaking into the first-team squad at Sunderland AFC. A native of Hebburn, the teenage sensation is already a regular for the EFL Championship club while becoming a mainstay for England’s under-19 side.
The 17-year-old has already turned out over 50 times thus far for Sunderland while chipping in with seven goals and one assist. On the other hand, Dan Neil has been with Sunderland throughout his journey as a footballer, joining the Wearside club’s academy in 2010 before progressing through the ranks and making his senior bow several years ago.
The 23-year-old has seen his stock skyrocket at the Stadium of Light, and he served Sunderland as the club captain. The Englishman has turned out nearly 200 times thus far for the Black Cats while chipping in with 12 goals and 20 assists. Meanwhile, Neil and Rigg have piqued the attention of several well-known Premier League clubs, with Everton among the prospective clubs vying for their signatures heading into the summer transfer window.
Premier League move beckons?
Chris Rigg has been on Everton’s radar for a long time, while Dan Neil has recently emerged as a target for the Merseyside outfit. The Toffees’ interest in the Sunderland midfield duo makes sense, considering Abdoulaye Doucoure might depart from Goodison Park as a free agent, while Idrissa Gueye has entered the twilight of his career.
So, Everton should invest in multiple midfielders, with Rigg and Neil emerging as viable targets. However, landing either or both midfielders in the summer transfer window will be a tall order. While Neil serves the EFL Championship outfit as the club captain, Rigg is among the most sought-after prospects in England.
The teenage sensation is a target for Manchester United, West Ham United, and other Premier League bigwigs. So, it will be interesting to see if Everton can sign the two English midfielders in the summer transfer window.
