Fabrizio Romano comments on Andre Onana situation

Fabrizio Romano has poured cold water on the speculation surrounding Andre Onana amid his emerging links with Saudi Pro League clubs.

According to an update by Fabrizio Romano on Give Me Sport, there are “no proposals or concrete talks” surrounding Andre Onana “at this stage”. Widespread reports have linked the 28-year-old Manchester United mainstay with Saudi Pro League clubs. However, the reputed Italian journalist has suggested it is “too early” to discuss his situation.

Andre Onana and his Manchester United mess

Andre Onana has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Manchester United from Inter Milan in July 2023. The African goalkeeper arrived at Old Trafford with a burgeoning reputation after his exploits for the Nerazzurri in the 2022/23 season, where the Serie A giants reached the UEFA Champions League final.

However, the 28-year-old has blown hot and cold throughout his stint with Manchester United. While Onana has shown flashes of brilliance throughout his spell with the Premier League heavyweights, he has also been error-prone, costing the Red Devils points and positive results in almost every competition. Nevertheless, he remains a mainstay between the sticks.

The Cameroonian international has turned out nearly 100 times thus far for Manchester United while keeping 22 clean sheets and conceding 136 goals. However, Onana’s long-term future is uncertain, with recent reports suggesting a departure from Old Trafford might be on the cards heading into the summer transfer window.

What next?

Recent reports have also linked Andre Onana with Saudi Pro League clubs, with the Manchester United goalkeeper open to moving to the Middle East. However, Fabrizio Romano has quashed such suggestions, although he has not ruled out a Saudi switch for the former Inter Milan shot-stopper.

The reputed Italian journalist said, “No proposal or concrete talks at this stage, it’s still March, so probably too early. We will see later.” Recent reports have also linked Onana with AC Milan, which might be a contentious move, considering his previous stint with Inter Milan.

Nevertheless, with Fabrizio Romano yet to corroborate the uncertainties surrounding Onana, it will be interesting to see what the future has in store for him. The 28-year-old Cameroonian international has improved in the last few weeks, and Manchester United should not cash in on him anytime soon.
