Nottingham Forest rival Manchester United in Ademola Lookman chase

High-flying Premier League club Nottingham Forest will reportedly compete with Manchester United to sign Ademola Lookman from Serie A outfit Atalanta this summer.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Ademola Lookman is the subject of interest from Nottingham Forest. The Atalanta attacker is also a target for Manchester United and Newcastle United. Meanwhile, the Serie A outfit will demand around €60-70 million to part ways with the productive Nigerian international in the summer transfer window.

Ademola Lookman and his Atalanta exploits

Ademola Lookman has reached a crossroads in his career this season after a topsy-turvy ride in the last 12 months. The London-born attacker struggled for consistency for several seasons before he joined Atalanta from RB Leipzig and established himself as one of the best attackers in Serie A.

The 27-year-old has come leaps and bounds in the last 12 months, playing his part as Atalanta won the UEFA Europa League in the 2023/24 season before contributing to La Dea’s Serie A title-contending campaign this term. Lookman has contributed to 25 goals in 32 appearances across all competitions in 2024/25, finding the back of the net 18 times and providing seven assists.

Meanwhile, Lookman’s exploits for Atalanta have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. However, the Nigerian international might return to the Premier League in the summer transfer window amid his links with Nottingham Forest and Manchester United. The Serie A club will demand around €60-70 million to part ways with him.

Premier League return on the horizon?

Manchester United’s interest in Ademola Lookman is understandable. Ruben Amorim wants more firepower in the final third amid Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund’s profligacy in the final third. So, the Atalanta forward has emerged as a viable target for Manchester United.

However, Nottingham Forest will aim to beat the competition to the London-born attacker’s signature in the summer transfer window. The Tricky Trees will likely compete in the UEFA Champions League next season. So, they want to upgrade their offensive unit and have set their sights on Lookman.

Nottingham Forest and Manchester United should have the funds to afford a deal worth €60-70 million to sign Lookman. It will be interesting to see if the 27-year-old Nigerian international returns to the Premier League in the summer transfer window.
