Aston Villa will reportedly compete with Arsenal and Liverpool to sign 27-year-old Nigerian international Ademola Lookman from Serie A club Atalanta this summer.
According to a report by Give Me Sport, Ademola Lookman is the subject of interest from Atalanta. Arsenal and Liverpool are also keen on signing the versatile Atalanta forward in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the Serie A club will demand around £55 million to part ways with the Nigerian international.
Ademola Lookman: A journey of resurgence in Italy
Ademola Lookman has seen his stock soar since joining Atalanta from RB Leipzig in August 2022. The London-born attacker failed to make his mark in the Premier League and could stamp his authority at RB Leipzig either. However, he has not looked back since arriving in Serie A two and a half years ago.
While the 27-year-old has endured controversy this season, he has overcome those issues to amass 18 goals and seven assists in 32 appearances across all competitions. Meanwhile, Lookman has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe with his exploits for Atalanta. Premier League bigwigs, in particular, are keen on signing the player, with Aston Villa joining Arsenal and Liverpool in the chase.
A man in demand
The Nigerian international has been on Arsenal’s radar for a long time, with the North London outfit mulling over signing him last summer. The continued interest makes sense, considering Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus have struggled to remain prolific this term. That has increased the dependence on Bukayo Saka. So, the Atalanta forward is a viable target for Arsenal.
Meanwhile, Liverpool’s interest in Ademola Lookman is understandable. The Reds are combing the market for a productive attacker amid uncertainties surrounding Mohamed Salah’s long-term future. In addition, Darwin Nunez might depart from Anfield in the summer transfer window. So, the versatile Atalanta star is an option worth considering for Liverpool.
As for Aston Villa, Unai Emery would prefer to seal permanent deals for Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio. However, the Villans must keep their options open if those moves do not see the light of day. So, Lookman has emerged as a viable target for Aston Villa. Meanwhile, Atalanta will demand around £55 million to part ways with the London-born winger.
Arsenal, Aston Villa, and Liverpool should have the funds to afford a deal worth £55 million for Lookman. The 27-year-old Nigerian international might feel he has unfinished business in the Premier League after his failed stints with Everton, Fulham, and Leicester City. So, it will not be surprising to see him return to England.
