Arsenal abandon Bruno Guimaraes chase

Arsenal are set to abandon their chase of Bruno Guimaraes in the summer as they have other priorities in the market.

According to TEAMtalk, Arsenal are not likely to pursue a move for Bruno Guimaraes despite their apparent interest in the Newcastle United midfielder. The Gunners are prioritising other areas such as the centre-forward role, meaning a move for the 27-year-old Newcastle United mainstay could be put on the back burner for the time being.

Arsenal will have some key transfer decisions to make in the summer window, as Mikel Arteta will want to strengthen the team to challenge for major honours. The Gunners are widely expected to target attacking talents, especially a striker, while there might be a few gaps in midfield that may need filling.

While a striker remains a priority, they have set sights on the likes of Alexander Isak as Arteta’s primary target, as others like Benjamin Sesko also remain on their list. The other big issue might be associated with the possibility of losing two experienced midfielders Thomas Partey and Jorginho, with the duo coming to the end of their deal at the Emirates.

Losing those experienced heads will leave a considerable gap in their midfield, with Arsenal seemingly addressing the issue early on. Credible sources have pointed out that the Gunners have already agreed on a deal for Martin Zubimendi, while there are rumours that they could target another midfield signing.

Incoming sporting director Andrea Berta wants a move for Bruno Guimaraes, with the 27-year-old Newcastle United mainstay likely to be an expensive signing. Manchester City are also keen on the Brazilian, while the Magpies are not keen to part ways with him.

Arsenal to abandon chase?

While Bruno Guimaraes is seemingly happy at Newcastle United, he might consider a departure if the club fails to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. That would alert any top team in the world towards the possibility of signing the 27-year-old Brazilian international, although in Arsenal’s case, the cost might prove prohibitive.

Tactically, they do not need to sign two midfielders as they have some notable options in the current squad. However, the idea of pursuing a deal for a top draw striker as well as someone like Guimaraes will seem unlikely given the likes of Isak has a huge price tag while the report states Guimaraes will cost at least £80-90 million, which will lead to the Gunners abandoning the chase for the Brazilian international.
