Tottenham table €45 million bid to sign Chris Rigg

Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing 17-year-old English wonderkid Chris Rigg from Sunderland in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Chris Rigg is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The Lilywhites are ready to cough up a hefty sum to land the Sunderland wonderkid in the summer transfer window, with the North London club already submitting an offer worth €45 million to secure the English prodigy’s services.

Meanwhile, a report by The Sun has claimed that the teenage sensation is a target for West Ham United. The Hammers are ready to launch the offensive to sign Rigg from the EFL Championship club in the summer transfer window. However, the British publication has suggested Sunderland’s asking price is lower than Tottenham’s supposed bid.

The rise and rise of Chris Rigg

Chris Rigg has established himself as one of the best young prospects in his homeland since breaking into the first-team squad at Sunderland AFC. A native of Hebburn, the 17-year-old spent his formative years with the Black Cats and broke into their first-team squad in January 2023.

The teenage sensation made his first-team bow for Sunderland as a 15-year-old and has become a mainstay in the middle of the park for the Championship club. The English wonderkid has turned out over 50 times thus far for the Wearside outfit while chipping in with seven goals and one assist. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has alerted well-known Premier League clubs like Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.

London calling?

Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Chris Rigg is understandable. The Lilywhites are building a squad for long-term success, signing highly-rated prospects every summer. Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray are shining examples of the outlook, and the Sunderland whizkid has emerged as a viable target for Tottenham amid uncertainties surrounding Yves Bissouma’s future. Meanwhile, the North London giants have offered €45 million to sign the highly-rated midfielder.

As for West Ham United, Guido Rodriguez faces an uncertain future at the London Stadium. In addition, Carlos Soler might not complete a permanent move to the East London club after an underwhelming loan spell. So, Rigg is an option worth considering for West Ham.

Meanwhile, The Sun has suggested West Ham’s asking price to part ways with Rigg is much lower than Tottenham’s bid of €45 million. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see where the 17-year-old English prodigy plies his trade next season.
