Tottenham could be well-placed in Angel Gomes chase

Tottenham Hotspur might have an advantage in the race to sign 24-year-old English international Angel Gomes after his contract with Ligue 1 club LOSC Lille expires.

According to a report by Ben Jacobs on Give Me Sport, Angel Gomes is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. Aston Villa and West Ham United are also keen on signing the LOSC Lille midfielder in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window. However, the North London club might have an advantage in the race to secure the 24-year-old midfielder’s services.

Angel Gomes and his Ligue 1 adventure

Angel Gomes has found a stable footing since joining LOSC Lille in a Bosman move in August 2020 after his Manchester United contract expired. The Englishman has been among the most dependable midfielders in Ligue 1 in the last four and a half years, although his involvement has reduced in the 2024/25 season.

With Gomes deciding not to sign a new contract with the Ligue 1 club, he has managed only 1,069 minutes of game time across 20 appearances in all competitions while chipping in with two goals and one assist. However, the 24-year-old will leave Lille as a free agent, with the situation capturing the attention of several well-known clubs, including Aston Villa, West Ham United, and Tottenham Hotspur.

Premier League return on the cards?

The English international has been on Aston Villa’s radar for several weeks. While it is unclear why the Villans want to sign Gomes, widespread reports have suggested they want to reinforce their midfield unit in the summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, West Ham United’s interest in Angel Gomes makes sense. Guido Rodriguez will likely depart from the London Stadium after a dreadful debut season with the East London club. In addition, Carlos Soler will unlikely complete a permanent move in the summer transfer window. So, the 24-year-old Englishman is an option worth considering for West Ham.

As for Tottenham Hotspur, Yves Bissouma faces an uncertain future at the North London club. So, the Lilywhites need a new midfielder heading into the summer transfer window, with Gomes a viable target. Ben Jacobs has now suggested that Tottenham might have an advantage in the race to secure the Lille midfielder’s services.

The English international wants to return to England after his adventure in Ligue 1 ends. So, it will be interesting to see where Gomes lands after his contract with LOSC Lille expires in a few months.
