Aston Villa weighing up Yves Bissouma swoop

Aston Villa might look to sign 28-year-old Malian midfielder Yves Bissouma from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Ben Jacobs on Give Me Sport, Yves Bissouma is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans are scouring the market for a midfielder heading into the summer transfer window. So, the 28-year-old Tottenham Hotspur star has emerged as a target for the West Midlands outfit, with the North London outfit ready to part ways with him.

Noni Madueke and his Tottenham career so far

Yves Bissouma has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Tottenham Hotspur from Brighton & Hove Albion in July 2022. The African midfielder was among the best midfielders in the Premier League when he arrived at the North London club two and a half years ago.

However, the 28-year-old endured a dreadful debut season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before finding a stable footing under Ange Postecoglou. Bissouma has turned out nearly 100 times thus far for the North London outfit while chipping in with two goals.

Bissouma’s exploits for Tottenham have also helped him gain confidence while representing Mali. However, the former Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder faces an uncertain future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the Premier League club reportedly ready to cash in on him in the summer transfer window. The situation has piqued the attention of several clubs, including Aston Villa.

Move across the Premier League on the cards?

Aston Villa’s interest in Yves Bissouma is somewhat baffling. Unai Emery has a stacked midfield unit, and it is perplexing why the Villans need another midfielder heading into the summer transfer window. Nonetheless, they are keen on reinforcing their midfield department.

So, several candidates, including Morten Frendrup, have emerged on Aston Villa’s radar, with Bissouma also a viable target for the West Midlands outfit. However, it is unclear if the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder is a leading option to reinforce the midfield department at Villa Park in the summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, recent reports have claimed that the 28-year-old Malian midfielder will likely enter showdown talks with Tottenham to discuss his long-term future. So, it will be interesting to see what the future has in store for the former Brighton & Hove Albion mainstay.
