Andre Onana linked with Manchester United exit

Manchester United’s 2023 summer signing, André Onana, could leave Old Trafford this summer amidst interest from the Middle East.

According to a report from The Sun, Andre Onana could end up making a move to Saudi Arabia ahead of next season. There is a significant amount of interest in the Manchester United number one from the Middle East, and if it turns into a firm offer, Ruben Amorim could sanction his departure.

Signing Onana was among the biggest decisions that Erik ten Hag took during his time at Old Trafford. They ended up parting ways with David de Gea to make room for the Cameroonian international.

The Red Devils forked out a significant fee to sign him from Inter Milan during the summer of 2023. His ability to play the ball out from the back was one of the major reasons why the Dutch manager wanted him in his team.

While Onana was among the best keepers in the world before he moved to Old Trafford, things haven’t really gone according to plan for him in the English top flight. He had a horror debut campaign. Things did improve during his second season, but he has yet to return to his best.

Onana’s time at Old Trafford could come to an end

With Ten Hag no longer at the club, his future has been a talking point for some time. Onana has made quite a few errors this term as well, and their new boss, Ruben Amorim, isn’t really pleased with his performances. As a result, there is a possibility of him leaving the club in the summer.

The Cameroonian international is on the wishlist of Saudi Pro League clubs, who are constantly seeking world-class players to strengthen their league. They see the United keeper as a great option to add more quality, and he seems set for a move to the Middle East.

Given the kind of financial strength clubs from that part of the world have, if they do make an offer, United won’t mind parting ways with the 28-year-old. They have already started looking for young goalkeeping options and have quite a few names on their wishlist.

If Saudi Arabian clubs do make a move, Amorim could make it a priority to replace Onana with a young star who can help them in the short as well as the long-run.
