Liverpool formulating €80 million offer to sign Xavi Simons

Liverpool are gearing up to make an €80 million offer to sign Manchester United attacking target Xavi Simons.

According to a report from Fichajes, Liverpool are looking to reinforce their attack ahead of next season, and they have their eyes set on Xavi Simons. The Dutch international has been a consistent performer for RB Leipzig, and the Reds feel he could help them cope with Mohamed Salah’s potential departure.

While things didn’t work out for Simons at PSG, a loan move to PSV Eindhoven helped him get things back on track. Following his successful stint at the Dutch club, he ended up joining RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023.

It was an initial two-year-long loan spell, but the German club made it permanent in the last winter window. Now, they could have an opportunity to cash in on him in the summer as multiple clubs from across Europe are after his signature.

The 21-year-old has been a standout performer for Leipzig. He has 13 goal contributions in his 25 outings this season. His massive potential, along with his ability to feature on the flanks as well as a number ten, has put him on the radar of Liverpool as well as Manchester United.

Manchester United are interested in Simons

With Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Antony likely to part ways with United on a permanent basis, they do need more quality on the flanks. Simons could be a great addition to Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system, which has two attacking midfield options behind the lone forward.

However, they could face financial difficulties in signing the Dutch star, as Leipzig won’t let him leave for anything less than €80 million. While the German outfit’s demands could be a stumbling block for other clubs, Liverpool seem to be willing to fork out that kind of a fee.

Liverpool are ready to go big for Simons

The Reds are looking to prepare for life without Mohamed Salah. While the 32-year-old remains the leader of their attack and has been doing wonders for them this season as well, he could choose to walk away for free as his contract runs out at the end of the season.

Liverpool feel Simons could help them cope with his absence. He has all the qualities to make the right-wing position his own and will only get better with time. Not only are the Reds ready to pay a big fee, but their management is also gearing up to establish contact to discuss the terms of the transfer and evaluate the viability of the deal.
