Nottingham Forest prepared to smash transfer record to sign Matheus Cunha

Nottingham Forest are ready to smash their transfer record to beat Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester United to the signature of Matheus Cunha.

Nottingham Forest are having a sensational season, currently sitting third in the Premier League and on track to secure a spot in next season’s Champions League. As a result, they have big plans for the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Tricky Trees will look to add more quality to their squad, and according to a report from Graeme Bailey TBR Football, they are willing to break the bank for Matheus Cunha. Nottingham Forest are keen to bolster their attack and are prepared to shatter their transfer record to sign the Wolves star, who is also on the wishlist of Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester United.

Cunha has established himself as one of the best forwards in the Premier League since joining Wolves at the start of 2023. The 25-year-old Brazilian forward has 15 goals and four assists in his 29 outings this season. While he signed a new deal with the club last month, Cunha is still expected to be on the move in the summer.

The new contract includes a release clause worth just over £60 million, possibly around £63 million, which will be the asking price in the summer. The new deal came just days after the Tricky Trees had enquired about Matheus Cunha during the winter transfer window.

Nottingham Forest could break the bank for Cunha

Nuno Espírito Santo believes Nottingham Forest will need more firepower in the final third if they do end up securing a place in the UEFA Champions League. The high-flying club have a long-standing interest in Matheus Cunha, and they are all set to battle some of the biggest clubs in the country to sign him.

Nottingham Forest are willing to go big to land him, and if they do end up triggering his release clause, it will shatter their club record, which was set last summer when they signed Elliot Anderson for £35 million. Despite the increasing interest in the Brazilian, the Tricky Trees remain in talks with the player’s camp.

They hold a significant advantage in their pursuit, as a move to Nottingham Forest would make it much easier for Matheus Cunha to settle. He may not even need to relocate, given that both clubs are based in the Midlands.

Rival clubs pose a threat in race to sign Matheus Cunha

Interest from Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United will certainly make the 25-year-old think twice. The Gunners need a world-class number nine, and Cunha could end up being the leader of their attack.

Meanwhile, Arne Slot is not happy with his striker options, and the Liverpool manager would love to have the Brazilian in his squad. While the Red Devils have signed two top-quality strikers in the recent past, Ruben Amorim needs a proven goal scorer to lead his line. As a result, Manchester United could also look to lure Matheus Cunha away.
