Liverpool’s defensive mainstay, Andy Robertson, is all set for crunch talks with the club regarding his future.
According to a report from Football Insider, Andy Robertson is all set to hold talks with Liverpool regarding his future after the end of the ongoing season. While the Reds are keen on having him around, he might no longer be their first-choice left-back going forward.
Roberton arrived at the club back in 2017 from Hull City. The Merseyside club forked out around £10 million to acquire his services. He has been one of their mainstays ever since and has played a massive part in all the success they have had.
While he remains their first-choice full-back under Arne Slot, things haven’t been that great for him this season. He has often been subject to a lot of criticism because of his inconsistent performances. While he remains the go-to man with 39 appearances across competitions, he has rotated with Kostas Tsimikas this term.
Robertson’s future at the Merseyside club
Since he will only have 12 months left on his deal in the summer, the 31-year-old Scottish full-back is all set to hold crunch talks with the club regarding his future.
Amidst uncertainty around the future of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold with their contract running out, Liverpool want to ensure Robertson’s future is secured.
They want him around for a while, but they might not be willing to have him as their first choice anymore. The Reds are in the market for a new left-sided full-back, and they have been linked with some of the best young full-backs.
Roberton may be asked to adjust to a rotation role going forward. As a result, it will be interesting to see if the Scottish international pushes for a move away, as he still has a lot of football left in him.
While renewing Salah, Alexander-Arnold, and Van Dijk remains Liverpool’s top priority, they also want to retain Robertson’s experience as they build a new project under Arne Slot.
