Trent Alexander-Arnold rejects latest Liverpool contract offer, Real Madrid move close

Trent Alexander-Arnold continues to close in on a move to Real Madrid after he reportedly rejected Liverpool’s latest contract offer.

According to Caught Offside, Liverpool faced fresh disappointments in their efforts to keep hold of Trent Alexander-Arniold, after the 26-year-old rejected their latest contract offer. The details of the proposal remain unclear, although the right-back seems all set to join Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer.

Liverpool are facing a testing period in the summer tramsfer window as the club are bracing for a raft of departures in the close season. The futures of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are all coming to the end of their deals at Anfield, with the wider expectations pointing towards a possible exit for the trio.

The trio are primed to leave the club, and while some reports have pointed at efforts to keep hold of Salah and Van Dijk, Alexander-Arnold is penciled in for a departure. As things stand, the 26-year-old right-back has set his heart on joining Real Madrid on a free transfer, with the Spanish giants closing in on a contract for the defender.

As per the report, Alexander-Arnold has reportedly rejected the latest contract offer from Liverpool, which may all but end the club’s hope to keep hold of the 26-year-old. His departure will be a blow for the Reds as well as Arne Slot, who has had a tremendous first season at Anfield.

Real Madrid are not alone in the race for Trent Alexander-Arnold, with Barcelona failing with an approach, while Bayern Munich have also shown an interest. However, it appears that Real Madrid are the clear favourites to sign him, as they have chased the defender for quite some time.

What next for Liverpool?

Liverpool are bracing for a big loss should the trio of influential stars end up departing. While they are holding on to hopes of keeping at least van Dijk and Salah, that too might go in vain. With those departures, the Reds will have to replace those key stars as well as strengthen other areas that need reinforcements.

All in all, Liverpool are probably staring at an expensive summer window should they want to keep their squad competitive in all competitions for next season. Replacing the influential trio would itself cost them a lot, as they are also in the hunt for a new midfielder, left-back and forward ahead of the summer.
