Tottenham rival Arsenal, Liverpool in Marcus Thuram chase, face two hurdles in pursuit

Tottenham are eager to act on their ‘historical interest’ in Marcus Thuram and beat their rivals, although they face major hurdles in their quest.

According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham could act on their ‘historical interest’ in Marcus Thuram and attempt to sign the French striker. The Inter Milan man has a hefty release clause in his contract that could be activated in the summer, although Spurs face massive hurdles in their quest.

Marcus Thuram is having another strong season with Inter Milan, and he remains on course to win back-to-back Serie A titles. This term he is the Nerazzurri’s top scorer across all competitions, although there’s a strong chance he could depart from San Siro in the summer.

The Frenchman has an €85 million release clause attached to his contract, which in theory could be triggered by interested parties during the summer. Inter Milan might see the financial gain in the sale, given they signed him on a free transfer back in the summer of 2023.

The majority of the interest in the Frenchman comes from the Premier League, with Arsenal and Liverpool considered as suitors for the striker. As per many reports, the duo are not prioritising a move for the Inter Milan star and have earmarked Alexander Isak as their priority target, which does leave the door open for other interested clubs in Marcus Thuram to make a move.

Tottenham are keen on Thuram, and they are ready to act on their ‘historical interest’ in the striker, which dates back to the time when Fabio Paratici was their director. In any case, Spurs are eager to add a new attacker, with space likely to open up with the possible departures of Timo Werner and even Son Heung-min in the summer.

Tottenham face Marcus Thuram roadblocks

Tottenham might represent one of the tempting destinations for any player wanting to come to the Premier League, however with the Thuram chase, they do face some challenges. The €85 million-rated French international might only want to join a new club with Champions League football, as Spurs are not expected to make the competition with their league form, although winning the Europa League might help them.

Secondly, the price tag as well as Inter Milan’s intention to keep hold of Thuram might play a big role, as the Nerazzurri are looking to hand him a new deal that could see the release clause taken out altogether. Hence, it is difficult to see Spurs challenging some of their Champions League playing rivals in the race for Marcus Thuram, as the Frenchman’s price tag is also set to play a key issue for the Londoners.
