Liverpool unwilling to offer a new deal to Diogo Jota

Arne Slot’s Liverpool have opted against offering a new contract to their Portuguese winger Diogo Jota.

According to a report from Football Insider, Liverpool have made a decision regarding the future of Diogo Jota. They won’t be offering him a new deal, as the club chiefs believe regular injuries are holding him back.

Jota made the move to Anfield in 2020 after proving himself in the English top flight with Wolves. The Merseyside club forked out a massive fee worth £45 million to add him to their squad.

The 28-year-old has been a good signing for them. He has been a consistent performer over the years and remains a key figure in the team under Arne Slot. He has been the preferred number nine option under the Dutch manager.

But the Portuguese international has been restricted to just 29 appearances. He has missed a total of 15 games because of muscle injuries this term alone. Jota has missed a significant number of games every season, and it has become a massive headache for the club.

Liverpool won’t offer Jota a new deal

While his ability to feature anywhere in an attack does come in handy, the reoccurring injuries have forced the Reds to make a decision regarding his future. They have decided against extending his stay at the club.

Jota’s current deal runs until the summer of 2027, and Liverpool are reluctant to offer him another long-term deal. Arne Slot and his recruitment team are looking at ways to bolster their attack. They could even consider cashing in on the Portuguese international.

They are already looking to offload Darwin Nunez, and it won’t be that big a surprise if they do cash in on Jota, as the funds raised could help them completely transform their attack. They could go in and sign one of the best forwards to lead the line and could even add depth on the flanks.

There is interest in his services from the Middle East, while rivals Arsenal are also keen on his signature. As a result, it will be interesting to see how things pan out in the summer.
