Liverpool step up interest in Xavi Simons

Liverpool will soon submit an enquiry to ask about the availability of Xavi Simons, with Bundesliga club RB Leipzig demanding €80 million to sell the Dutch playmaker.

According to a report by Caught Offside, Xavi Simons is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds are scouring the market for a productive attacker heading into the summer transfer window and have set their sights on the RB Leipzig playmaker. They want to ramp up their efforts to sign the Dutch playmaker by enquiring about his availability.

The Dutchman is also a target for Manchester United, although the Red Devils might not have the funds to afford a summer move. Meanwhile, the Bundesliga giants want around €80 million to part ways with Simons in the summer transfer window.

The rise and rise of Xavi Simons

Xavi Simons has established himself as one of the best players in the Bundesliga since joining RB Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain. Les Parisiens re-signed the 21-year-old playmaker from PSV Eindhoven in July 2023 before immediately loaning him to the Bundesliga club. The youngster returned to the Red Bull Arena last summer before completing a permanent move this past winter.

The Dutch playmaker has turned out over 50 times thus far for RB Leipzig while chipping in with 18 goals and 19 assists. Meanwhile, Simons’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Premier League bigwigs, in particular, are keen on signing the Netherlands international, with Liverpool and Manchester United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.

Premier League adventure on the horizon?

Liverpool’s interest in Xavi Simons is understandable. The Reds are in a spot of bother over Mohamed Salah’s long-term future, with the Egyptian international entering the final few months of his contract. While the Dutchman will not be a like-for-like replacement for the Liverpool talisman, he will add creativity to the offensive unit.

As for Manchester United, the Red Devils are scouring for a productive attacker heading into the summer transfer window. Simons has thus emerged as a viable target, as he can be the perfect fit in Ruben Amorim’s system. However, RB Leipzig’s asking price of €80 million poses a problem for Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will soon approach the Bundesliga club to enquire about the 21-year-old Dutch playmaker’s availability. So, it will be interesting to see where the €80 million-rated attacker lands in the summer transfer window.
