Liverpool hold contract talks with Luis Diaz

Liverpool have held contract renewal talks with their Colombian attacking sensation, Luis Diaz, amidst interest from Barcelona.

According to a report from Football Insider, Liverpool have held talks with Luis Diaz regarding a new contract in recent months. The Reds want to secure his long-term future, and they have made their intentions quite clear. But, nothing concrete has happened just yet.

Diaz joined the Merseyside club at the start of 2022 after making a name for himself at FC Porto. The 28-year-old might not have lit up the world, but he has certainly been a consistent performer for the Reds.

He has been involved in a total of 42 matches this season and has contributed towards 18 goals (13 goals, 5 assists). While the majority of his appearances have come on the left flank, the Colombian international has even played as the out-and-out striker for the Dutch manager.

Slot remains keen on signing a world-class striker, as he is not happy with the output of his current forwards. The club is reportedly ready to part ways with Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota. While Diaz has also failed to make the number nine role his own, he has done a great job from the flanks.

Liverpool want to keep hold of Diaz

As a result, the Liverpool boss does count on the Colombian forward for the long run. While he still has just over two years left on his deal, the Reds want to tie him down to a long-term contract amidst interest from Barcelona.

The Catalan giants have been keen on signing him for some time. Their sporting director, Deco, is a huge admirer of the 28-year-old, and he is the main driving force behind their interest in him. While they do want to make a move for him, and Diaz also seems to be open to a move to the Spanish outfit, the Reds don’t really want to part ways with him.

They have held contract renewal talks with the Colombian winger in recent months. While they have initiated talks, nothing concrete has come of it so far. As a result, it will be interesting to see how things pan out over the next few months.
