Arsenal are unlikely to win the race for the services of Newcastle mainstay Bruno Guimaraes despite making a €70 million bid.
Bruno Guimaraes managed to etch his name in Newcastle’s history on Sunday as he guided them to the EFL Cup and ended their long drawn wait for a silverware. While he remains a key figure in their team and has a significant amount of time left on his deal there, multiple clubs want to prise him away.
Arsenal are one of the clubs that are interested in his signature. According to a report from Fichajes, the Gunners recently submitted a €70 million offer to sign the Brazilian international. But, they are still unlikely to win the race.
The midfielder who joined the Tyneside club at the start of 2022 has established himself as one of the best players in the Premier League. He has been involved in 37 matches this season and has contributed towards 11 goals.
His consistent performances, along with his ability to feature in any role in midfield, have put him on the radar of Arsenal. Mikel Arteta seeks more quality in the centre of the park after a disappointing season. He would love to have someone like Guimaraes in his squad, as he has already proved himself in the English top flight.
Since they consider him an ideal midfielder to elevate the level of their squad, the North London club have already made a move to lure him away from St. James’ Park. However, their €70 million offer won’t be enough to convince the Magpies.
Arsenal unlikely to sign Guimaraes this summer
They are not interested in negotiating his departure, irrespective of the offer on the table. They are well aware of his importance in their squad and the project. Meanwhile, a report from Football Insider has also suggested that the Gunners will find it very difficult to sign him in the summer.
Apart from Newcastle’s firm stance on his future, the report has highlighted another major reason why Arsenal won’t be able to bring Guimaraes to North London. They already have an agreement in principle to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad.
The Spanish international is a long-term target, and they are set to trigger his £51 million release clause this summer. With them all set to sign the 26-year-old, they might not push hard to sign the Newcastle star, as their priority will then be to bring in a world-class striker.
