Bournemouth optimistic of winning race to sign Caoimhin Kelleher

Bournemouth, Chelsea, and Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing 26-year-old Irish goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher from Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by The Sun, Caoimhin Kelleher is the subject of interest from Bournemouth. Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on signing the Liverpool goalkeeper in the summer transfer window. However, the Cherries hope to beat the competition to the Republic of Ireland international, with Liverpool valuing him at around £30 million.

Caoimhin Kelleher and his Liverpool limbo

Caoimhin Kelleher has established himself as one of the best backup goalkeepers in the world since breaking into the first-team squad at Liverpool FC. The Irishman has been with the Merseyside outfit since arriving from Ringmahon Rangers nearly a decade ago before making his senior bow a few years later.

However, the 26-year-old has been Alisson’s deputy throughout his spell with Liverpool’s first team. Kelleher has turned out over 50 times thus far for the Reds while keeping 23 clean sheets and conceding 76 goals. However, the player will likely leave Liverpool in the summer transfer window, with Giorgi Mamardashvili arriving from Valencia after the 2024/25 season ends. The situation has alerted Premier League clubs like Bournemouth, Chelsea, and Tottenham.

A man in demand

The Republic of Ireland international has been on Chelsea’s radar for a long time. The Blues have a mind-boggling number of goalkeepers in their squad. However, regular stoppers Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen have blown hot and cold this season, compelling Chelsea to scour the market for a goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Caoimhin Kelleher is surprising. The North London club signed Antonin Kinsky in the winter transfer window, while Guglielmo Vicario is a solid first-choice goalkeeper. So, it is unclear why Tottenham might want to sign a shot-stopper this summer.

As for Bournemouth, Kepa Arrizabalaga will return to Chelsea after the 2024/25 season ends, while Neto and Mark Travers are not options to be the first-choice goalkeeper. So, the Cherries need a new shot-stopper, with Kelle er emerging as a viable target. In addition, Bournemouth should have the funds to afford a deal worth £30 million to land the Liverpool ace.

The Cherries are confident of landing the Republic of Ireland international in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the 26-year-old Irishman is also a target for Newcastle United. However, Newcastle United might not have the funds to afford a deal worth £30 million for the Liverpool goalkeeper.
