Barcelona eyeing Victor Osimhen as Robert Lewandowski replacement

Barcelona might pursue 26-year-old Nigerian international Victor Osimhen in the summer transfer window as a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Victor Osimhen is the subject of interest from FC Barcelona. The Catalan giants are scouring the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window amid Robert Lewandowski’s advancing years. So, the Nigerian centre-forward has emerged as a target for the Blaugrana.

Victor Osimhen and his sky-high stock

Victor Osimhen has remained one of the best strikers in the world since joining Galatasaray from Napoli on a season-long loan deal last summer. The African attacker was in limbo when the move to Chelsea failed before the Turkish champions handed him an escape route from Napoli.

The 26-year-old has gone from strength to strength during his spell with Galatasaray. Osimhen has contributed to 31 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions thus far this term, finding the back of the net 26 times while providing five assists. Meanwhile, the player’s exploits for the Turkish Super Lig champions have not gone unnoticed.

The Nigerian international striker’s progress has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. With Osimhen burning his bridges with Napoli, a permanent departure from the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium is on the cards. Meanwhile, Barcelona will aim to beat the competition to his signature in the summer transfer window.

La Liga move on the horizon?

Barcelona’s interest in Victor Osimhen is understandable. The Catalan giants are scouring the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window amid Robert Lewandowski’s advancing age. While the veteran Polish centre-forward has been prolific this season, he is in the twilight of his career.

So, several candidates, including Alexander Isak, have emerged on Barcelona’s radar, with Osimhen also a viable target. However, he will not cost a bomb, with Napoli demanding around €75-80 million to part ways with him in the summer transfer window. The valuation leaves Barcelona in a spot of bother amid the never-ending financial issues.

However, if Barcelona can afford a deal worth €75-80 million to sign the 26-year-old Nigerian international, he will be the ideal long-term replacement for Lewandowski. So, it will be interesting to see if Osimhen succeeds Lewandowski at the Catalan club.
