Aston Villa and Liverpool have both enquired about the availability of Genoa midfield mainstay Morten Frendrup.
According to CaughtOffside via Calciomercato, Morten Frendrup could end up making a move to the Premier League this summer as Aston Villa and Liverpool are both interested in his services. Both English clubs have knocked on the doors of Genoa to learn more about a potential transfer ahead of next season.
Frendrup came up the ranks at Bröndby IF. After making a name for himself at the Danish club, he ended up joining Genoa at the start of 2022. He has gone from strength to strength since and has established himself as a key figure in the Italian club.
While he prefers playing as a central midfielder, he has done well in a defensive role as well as on the flanks. His performances have helped him break into the Danish national team and have also put him on the radar of quite a few top clubs.
Italian giants, Juventus, have been linked with him, but they haven’t made any decisive moves yet. As a result, the door is open for other clubs to try and lure him. Premier League outfits could end up making the most out of it.
Premier League clubs want to sign Frendrup
Aston Villa and Liverpool are interested in the midfield sensation and could try to strike a deal for the 23-year-old whose contract at Genoa runs until the summer of 2028. While the Serie A outfit are aware of the increasing interest in him, they stand firm on their asking price of €30 million to begin negotiations.
While it is a significant fee, both English clubs can certainly afford to meet their demands. Despite having done most things right this season, the Reds still want to add more quality to their squad. Arne Slot seeks more competition in the centre of the park, and Frendrup could be a great signing in the long run.
Meanwhile, Villa have taken giant strides in recent seasons and in order to ensure they continue in a similar fashion, they will once again look to make some significant moves in the window. They admire the young Danish midfielder and could end up battling it out with Liverpool.
Both clubs have already tested the waters. They have knocked on Genoa’s door with the intention of learning more about a potential transfer in the summer. While neither club have made any concrete moves, they are certainly keen on signing him. As a result, this transfer saga could be one to follow ahead of the 2025/26 season.
