Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have received a massive boost in their pursuit of Wolves attacking mainstay Matheus Cunha.
Matheus Cunha’s impressive performances have put him on the radar of multiple top clubs that could try to sign him in the summer. Wolves will certainly have a tough time keeping hold of one of their most valuable assets.
Arsenal are one of the clubs that have been linked with the Brazilian international and according to Fabrizio Romano via GiveMeSport, the Gunners have received a boost in their pursuit of the Wolves sensation as his new deal has a release clause.
While speaking to GiveMeSport, the transfer expert said: “Matheus Cunha and Joao Gomes are the two players who can really attract interest in the summer, and it’s going to be very difficult to keep Cunha, let’s see, because he has a release clause. So I think these two names will be interesting to follow in the summer.”
Cunha joined the Premier League outfit from Atletico Madrid at the start of 2023. It was an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy worth £44 million. He has only gone from strength to strength since moving to Wolves, and he is now regarded as one of the best forwards in the English top flight, thanks to his consistent performances.
He has 15 goals and four assists in his 26 outings this season. Wolves are nine points clear of the drop zone, and they can certainly avoid the drop if he carries on in a similar fashion. But that still might not be enough to keep him at Molineux Stadium, as some of the biggest clubs in Europe are after his signature.
The 25-year-old’s consistent performances earned him a new deal at the start of the year. While fans were hoping that a new long-term contract would guarantee his continuity at the club, there is a £60 million release clause, which could lead to his departure.
Arsenal could push for Cunha
Arsenal are one of the clubs that have been linked with the Brazilian striker. Mikel Arteta isn’t happy with the output of his current forwards. He wants an upgrade on Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz, and Cunha can certainly help his cause.
He is a proven Premier League star and can certainly solve their goal-scoring issues. More importantly, the North London club have the financial strength to trigger his release ahead of next season. Andrea Berta, who will take charge as their new sporting director, could end up having a massive say on how things pan out in the summer.
