Darwin Nunez expected to seal Liverpool exit this summer

Arne Slot’s Liverpool are reportedly ready to sanction the departure of 25-year-old Uruguayan international Darwin Nunez.

According to a report from Football Insider, Darwin Nunez is all set to part ways with Liverpool after the end of the ongoing season. While he might not have managed to secure a move away in the winter window, a summer departure looks almost certain as the club have already started assessing the market for an ideal replacement.

After making a name for himself at Benfica, Nunez secured a big-money move to Liverpool in the summer of 2022. The Reds broke the bank and made him their most expensive signing of all time. While he has been a reliable performer, the 33-capped Uruguayan international has fallen short of expectations.

He has been involved in a total of 39 matches this season but has been on the pitch for less than 1,900 minutes. Despite contributing towards 14 goals, Arne Slot is not entirely pleased with his efforts. The Liverpool manager and his coaching staff are not impressed by his performance.

While the Dutch manager blocked a potential move to Saudi Arabia during the winter transfer window, he is unlikely to stand in his way during the summer. Slot has publicly criticised the 25-year-old, and he does not consider him an integral part of his plans going ahead.

Nunez to leave Liverpool

Nunez was left frustrated when Slot blocked his winter move and having gone down the pecking order in the recent past, he will be eager to move on from Anfield despite his contract running until the summer of 2028. Meanwhile, the Reds are open to listen to offers when the window reopens. They have already started planning for life without the Uruguayan international.

Liverpool are looking to move him on, to raise funds and make room for the signing of a world-class forward. The Dutch manager wants to bring in a proven goalscorer who can help them take the next after an impressive start.

While the move to Liverpool has not gone according to plan for the South American striker, he can still turn things around. As a result, it will be interesting to see if he decides to move to the Middle East or seeks to remain in Europe.
