Manchester United considering Ferland Mendy swoop

Manchester United are angling for a Bosman move for Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy this summer, with the defender yet to sign a new deal.

According to Fichajes, Manchester United could sound out a move to sign Ferland Mendy in the summer from Real Madrid. The French left-back has not shut the door on a stay at the Santiago Bernabeu, although the financial terms offered by the Spanish giants have been below the defender’s demands.

Ferland Mendy and his camp continue to negotiate fresh terms with Real Madrid ahead of a summer that could be a turning point in the defender’s career. The 29-year-old Real Madrid defender is into the final few months of his deal at the Bernabeu, with both parties still apart in finding an agreement.

For Mendy’s part, he feels the need for a higher salary and his representatives have laid out the demands for his stay. They also know Real Madrid are eager to keep hold of the left-back following their failure to sign Alphonso Davies, who was once seen as a priority on a free transfer. However the Canadian international dealt a severe blow by signing a new deal with Bayern Munich.

With that in mind, Real Madrid are not prepared to let a player like Ferland Mendy leave. While the two parties are still apart, there is a big chance for suitors to stake their chance in the race, with Manchester United one of those interested in proposing a contract.

As per the report, Manchester United are willing to offer Mendy the terms that suit his demands. Ruben Amorim might view the experienced 29-year-old Real Madrid defender as a replacement of sorts for either Tyrel Malacia or Luke Shaw.

Manchester United sense an opportunity with Ferland Mendy

Manchester United are reeling from some level of financial pressure to keep things simple in the market. There is a belief that Amorim may not have the kind of funds afforded to previous managers, which does point to the idea of selling before buying. With Mendy, they can potentially sign an experienced player for nothing, bearing only his salary for the coming years.

Manchester United have other left-back targets like Antonee Robinson, with his reported £40 million asking price may prove prohibitive for them in the summer. For now, they will keep close tabs on Ferland Mendy’s situation and whether he ends up signing a new deal at the Bernabeu.
