Liverpool ramping up efforts to sign Dean Huijsen

Liverpool will reportedly accelerate the move to sign 19-year-old Spanish youth international Dean Huijsen from fellow Premier League club Bournemouth this summer.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Dean Huijsen is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds are scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window and are ready to intensify their efforts to sign the Bournemouth defensive sensation. Meanwhile, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on landing the Spanish youth international.

The rise and rise of Dean Huijsen this season

Dean Huijsen has established himself as one of the best young prospects in the Premier League since joining Bournemouth from Juventus last summer. A native of Amsterdam, the teenage sensation has represented the Netherlands and Spain in age-group international football, with the latter likely his future national side.

Meanwhile, the 19-year-old has come leaps and bounds at AFC Bournemouth, amassing nearly 2,000 minutes of game time across 26 appearances in all competitions while chipping in with two goals. Meanwhile, Huijsen’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur.

A man in demand

Chelsea will likely dip into the market for a centre-back in the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term futures of Trevoh Chalobah, Axel Disasi, and Benoit Badiashile. In addition, Wesley Fofana has struggled with fitness issues throughout his spell with the West London club. So, the Spanish youth international has emerged as a viable target for Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Dean Huijsen is understandable. The Lilywhites are scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window despite securing a loan move for Kevin Danso this past winter. So, the Bournemouth centre-back is an option worth considering for Tottenham.

As for Liverpool, Huijsen is the priority centre-back target for the Merseyside outfit heading into the summer transfer window. Virgil van Dijk has yet to sign a new contract with Liverpool, and he is approaching the twilight of his career. With Joe Gomez’s fitness issues well-documented, the Reds need a top-class central defender, and they are ready to intensify their efforts to land him.

The Spanish youth international has a release clause worth £50 million in his contract with Bournemouth. Coughing up £50 million should not be an issue for the Reds, although Chelsea and Tottenham also have the financial bandwidth to afford a big-money deal for the 19-year-old Spanish youth international.
