West Ham United initiate move for Angel Gomes

West Ham United are eager to beat the competition from Tottenham Hotspur for the signing of free agent Angel Gomes in the summer.

According to Football Insider, West Ham United are eager to land Angel Gomes on a free transfer in the summer and beat their rivals like Tottenham in the race for the midfielder. The 24-year-old Ligue 1 midfielder is not renewing his deal at LOSC Lille, which has opened the door to make a return to England.

Angel Gomes has had a curious season, where in the first half he was the talk among many English clubs, but in recent times something has been off. The 24-year-old Ligue 1 midfielder has been tremendous for LOSC Lille in the early part of the campaign, but since the beginning of November, he has started only twice in Ligue 1.

Yet, there’s no shortage of interest in the midfielder with a host of Premier League sides lining up a move for the 24-year-old Ligue 1 midfielder ahead of the summer. Gomes is into the final months of his deal at LOSC Lille and has no plans on signing an extension, meaning he will be made available on a free transfer.

Gomes may have had offers around the January window with West Ham and Tottenham interested, as he chose to stay with Lille for the remainder of the season. There might have been some talks taking place in the background with various parties, with Gomes widely expected to make a return to England, where he previously was on the books of Manchester United.

Manchester United are keen on re-signing him as well as Jonathan David, his Lille teammate ahead of the summer. However, any decision on Gomes’ future will depend on how big a role he lands at his new side, with Tottenham also in the mix as Daniel Levy is personally pushing for the move.

West Ham eager to land Angel Gomes

Tottenham’s name has appeared more often in links to Gomes, although West Ham are also interested in signing the midfielder. The Hammers are eager to make an early move to ensure they are ahead of the competition for the 24-year-old Ligue 1 midfielder.

The Hammers could potentially offer him a key role that suits an England international and convince the midfielder to snub other suitors to make a move to the London Stadium. Even with suggestions the Hammers might be a bit ahead of the competition, the race for the 24-year-old Ligue 1 midfielder seems to be wide open ahead of the final months of the season.
