Tottenham will have to battle Aston Villa and Newcastle for the signature of Southampton defensive sensation Taylor Harwood-Bellis.
According to a report from TBR, Tottenham, Aston Villa, and Newcastle United are all interested in acquiring the services of Taylor Harwood-Bellis. The English international is all set to take the next step in his career, and some of the biggest clubs in the country are after his signature.
Harwood-Bellis came up the ranks at Manchester City. He got promoted to their first team at the start of 2021. While he did make a handful of appearances for the senior side, he was often out on loan and never really got an extended run in the team.
He joined the Saints in the summer of 2023 on a season-long loan and played a massive part in their promotion to the English top flight. On the back of his performances, the move became permanent last summer as Southampton forked out a free of around £20 million.
While the club are struggling to get the desired results, the 23-year-old has been one of their standout performers. 24 out of his 28 appearances have come in the Premier League. He has been doing wonders for them, and his contract there runs until the summer of 2028.
But his continuity can’t be guaranteed as the Saints are all set to return to the Championship. If they fail to stay up, they will have to part ways with quite a few of their stars, and Harwood-Bellis will certainly be a part of that list.
Meanwhile, the player will also push for a move as he wants to secure a place in Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the next World Cup. Multiple clubs are keeping a close eye on his situation and would pounce on any opportunity to sign him. Tottenham, Aston Villa and Newcastle are all ready to raid Southampton for his signature.
Top English clubs to battle for Harwood-Bellis
Ange Postecoglou seeks more depth at the back, and they consider Harwood-Bellis a great option for both the short and the long run. Following the departure of Diego Carlos, Villa added Axel Disasi to their ranks.
But, with him set to return to his parent club Chelsea in the summer, they are looking at the English international as an ideal option to bolster their backline. The Tyneside club are also looking to add depth to their defence, and they feel Harwood-Bellis has all the qualities to succeed at the highest level.
While Tottenham have to battle Villa and Newcastle for his signature, City could cause problems for them as they have a sell-on clause and a buy-back clause in his contract.
