Liverpool rival Barcelona in Mason Greenwood chase

Liverpool are reportedly ready to battle it out with Barcelona for the signature of Marseille star Mason Greenwood.

According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Liverpool and Barcelona are both keen on signing former Manchester United star Mason Greenwood, who has been doing wonders since joining Marseille last summer. The English forward is on the wishlist of quite a few top clubs, and he could be heading to a bigger club ahead of next season, with the Ligue 1 outfit demanding €75 million to sell him.

Greenwood’s career was off to a flying start at Manchester United. He got promoted to their first back in 2019 and had established himself as a key figure in no time. But, off-field controversies derailed his career, and he had to wait until the summer of 2023 to restart his journey in the world of football.

Manchester United were not ready to give him another run in their first team. As a result, he had a loan spell at Getafe. Despite his impressive performances, there was no way back for him at Old Trafford. Quite a few clubs were keen on his signature, but Marseille were the one who ended up winning the race to land him.

The 23-year-old forward is certainly enjoying life in France as he has 18 goal contributions in his 25 outings. His performances have not gone unnoticed as multiple top clubs are ready to raid the Ligue 1 outfit for his signature.

Barcelona want to sign Mason Greenwood

Barcelona are one of the clubs that have been keeping a close eye on him, and they could make a move to sign him. Their president Joan Laporta has asked sporting director Deco to closely follow his progress as he is a perfect fit for their plans moving forward.

While the Blaugrana do not have the best financial situation, they hope they can find a way to land the versatile English forward at the club ahead of next season. But, Barcelona are not alone in the race as Bayern Munich, Juventus, and Liverpool are all keen on his signature.

Greenwood could replace Salah at Liverpool

All three clubs have a much better financial situation to strike a deal. As far as Liverpool are concerned, they are on the lookout for someone who can help replace the Saudi-linked Mohamed Salah in the long run. Greenwood certainly can as he has all the qualities needed to make the right flank his own at Anfield.

As far as Marseille are concerned, they won’t mind sanctioning his departure as long as the interested clubs table an offer of around €75 million, which allows them to book an instant profit. The figure will certainly cause problems for Barcelona, but it should not bother Liverpool that much.
