Arne Slot’s Liverpool could delay the arrival of their 2024 summer signing Giorgi Mamardashvili, who has remained on loan at Valencia.
Liverpool haven’t really done much in the recent transfer windows. Despite the arrival of Arne Slot in the summer, they were quite cautious in the market as the Dutch manager only wanted to sign players who could perfectly fit into his plans.
One of their summer signings was Valencia shot-stopper Giorgi Mamardashvili, but they opted to let him remain at the Spanish club for another season. He is set to move to Anfield ahead of next season but according to a report from TBR, Liverpool could further delay his arrival at the club.
The Reds forked out around £30 million to sign the 24-year-old goalkeeper last summer. His consistent performances for club and country had impressed people at the Merseyside club. They see him as an ideal long-term replacement for Alisson Becker, as a result, they want all out to strike a deal for him.
While Becker was linked with a move to the Middle East, Liverpool were not ready to sanction his departure last summer. They wanted him to continue as their number one. As a result, they decided to let Mamardashvili stay at Valencia on a season-long loan.
Mamardashvili’s arrival could be delayed
The initial idea was to loan him out to Bournemouth but all parties involved decided that staying in Spain was in the best interest of the player. While the Georgian is scheduled to join the Reds at the end of the season, Liverpool are not yet certain about parting ways with Alisson.
The 32-year-old shot-stopper has been doing wonders for Slot and he still has two years left on his deal. While Saudi Pro League clubs remain interested in his signature, the Merseyside club haven’t ruled out keeping the Brazilian goalkeeper at the club for another year.
Slot is a huge admirer of Alisson and considers him one of the best in the world. As a result, he could push to have him around for another season. If the Brazilian continues at the club, they will have to make a decision regarding Mamardashvili as he might not accept a backup role. He could look to spend another season out on loan before moving to Anfield and the Reds could go ahead with it, as Alisson still has plenty of football left in him.
