Bayern Munich eyeing Son Heung-min swoop

Bayern Munich are interested in acquiring the services of Tottenham Hotspur skipper Son Heung-min ahead of next season.

Son Heung-min could end up parting ways with Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the 2024/25 season. The veteran attacker is in the final phase of his career, and he could choose to play for a team with greater ambitions. Multiple top clubs are keeping a close eye on him and according to a report from Fichajes, Bayern Munich are one of the clubs keen on signing the South Korean international.

Son joined Spurs in the summer of 2015, and he has only gone from strength to strength since. The 131-cap South Korean international has been one of the best forwards in the Premier League for a while now. The Tottenham skipper has taken over as the leader of their attack following the departure of Harry Kane.

While he has not been at his best and Spurs have been struggling in the ongoing campaign, Son still has 10 goals and as many assists in his 36 outings. The majority of his appearances have come on the left flank, but he has even started up top when needed.

Despite being 32, he is still going strong and the North London club have already triggered the option to extend his stay until the summer of 2026. While they were initially concerned that he could leave as a free agent, Spurs now have the cushion of another 12 months.

But, that does not guarantee his continuity, as Son Heung-min could still choose to walk away amidst interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe. While he has been highly successful on an individual level during his time at Tottenham, the South Korean attacker has not been able to guide them to any major silverware.

Bayern Munich plot a raid on Tottenham for Son

The lack of titles and a solid sporting project could lead to his departure, and Bayern Munich seem to have positioned themselves as front-runners for his signature. The German giants might be leading the race for the Bundesliga title, but they haven’t been as dominant a force they generally are.

Vincent Kompany seeks more firepower, and he would love to work with someone who has loads of experience under his belt. Son Heung-min will add pace on the flanks, and his goalscoring ability will make them an even greater threat going forward. Having spent a significant time at Hamburg and Bayer Leverkusen before his move to England, the 32-year-old won’t take long to adjust to life at Bayern.

Die Roten will provide him with an opportunity to consistently compete for the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League, which could influence his decision. Having done wonders alongside Kane at Tottenham, the 131-cap South Korean international would love to reunite with him in Germany. The final call will depend on the player and the negotiations between the two clubs.
