Manchester United have made significant progress in talks to sign Sporting CP attacking sensation Geovany Quenda.
According to Ben Jacobs via GiveMeSport, Manchester United are closing in on the signature of Geovany Quenda. They are in talks with Sporting CP regarding the acquisition of the talented young winger and those talks are progressing well.
Quenda went up the ranks at the Portuguese club at some pace and he got promoted to their first team at the start of the ongoing campaign. He made his Sporting first-team debut under Ruben Amorim and became a key figure in the team in no time.
He has featured in a total of 40 matches in his debut campaign and has even contributed towards nine goals. The 17-year-old has made quite a name for himself with his impressive performances on either flank. He even earned a call-up to the Portugal squad towards the end of 2024.
His sensational rise has put him on the radar of quite a few top clubs. While his contract at Sporting runs until the summer of 2027, he is unlikely to be around for long. He has been linked with a move to Manchester United ever since Amorim made the switch to Old Trafford in November.
United are keen on Quenda
The Red Devils will be looking to sign young players who can help them in the short as well as the long run. They have already added Patrick Dorgu to strengthen the flanks and would now love to add Quenda to their squad. While he can feature on either flank, the teenager could compete with Amad Diallo for a place in the starting XI as a right-winger or a wing-back.
The Portuguese manager is a big admirer of the Sporting sensation and would love to have him at his disposal. The English club are already in talks with the Liga Portugal outfit and as per Jacobs, they have made significant progress, although the deal is still far from being finalized.
Jacobs’ take on Quenda to United
While speaking to GiveMeSport, Jacobs said: “Talks are advancing, but not necessarily advanced, because Manchester United are sticking to their number.
“And at the moment, as you would expect, Sporting are doing the same as well. So there has been a little bit of an impasse, but Jorge Mendes is directly involved in negotiations, and because the player has a desire to join Manchester United, they remain hopeful that something can get done.
“They see appeal in a talented teenager who can join when he’s 18, and can play right-wing or right wing-back.”
Both clubs are in advanced talks but no major progress has been made because both parties are holding onto their valuation. Superagent Jorge Mendes is directly involved in negotiations as his client wants to move to Old Trafford. The player’s desire is one of the major reasons why the Manchester Giants are confident about their chances.
