Newcastle United rival Manchester United in Ademola Lookman chase

Newcastle United will compete with Manchester United to sign 27-year-old Nigerian international Ademola Lookman from Serie A club Atalanta in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Ademola Lookman is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are scouring the market for a productive attacker heading into the summer transfer window, with the Atalanta forward emerging as a target. The Nigerian international is also a target for Manchester United, with the Serie A club demanding around €65 million to part ways with him.

Ademola Lookman and his Atalanta journey so far

Ademola Lookman has established himself as one of the most dependable performers in Serie A since joining Atalanta from RB Leipzig in August 2022. The Nigerian international finally found a stable footing in his career when he moved to Bergamo after struggling to stamp his authority at nearly half a dozen other clubs.

The London-born attacker has been exceptional thus far this season, contributing to 24 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions, finding the back of the net 17 times and providing seven assists. However, Lookman’s long-term future at Atalanta has become uncertain after a recent clash of words with Gian Piero Gasperini.

While the 27-year-old versatile attacker started and excelled in the 5-0 win over Empoli this past weekend, his future remains uncertain. The situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs, including Manchester United and Newcastle United. Meanwhile, Atalanta will demand around €65 million to part ways with Lookman.

Premier League return on the cards?

Manchester United hold a long-standing interest in Ademola Lookman. The Reds Devils are scouring the market for a productive attacker heading into the summer transfer window amid Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee’s struggles in the final third. So, the Atalanta forward has emerged as a viable target for Manchester United.

As for Newcastle United, the Tyneside outfit parted ways with Miguel Almiron in the winter transfer window. While Jacob Murphy has been impressive as Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon’s partner in the final third, the Magpies need a new attacker in the summer. So, Lookman is an option worth considering for Newcastle United.

Manchester United and Newcastle United should have the funds to afford a deal worth €65 million for Lookman in the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see if the 27-year-old Nigerian international returns to the Premier League in the summer transfer window.
