Juventus considering Douglas Luiz swap deal to sign Sandro Tonali

Juventus are ready to offer Douglas Luiz in a swap deal to sign Newcastle United midfield mainstay Sandro Tonali.

According to a report from JuveLive, Juventus are working hard to bring Sandro Tonali back to Italy. They are keen on signing the Newcastle United star and are ready to offer 2024 summer signing Douglas Luiz as a part of a swap deal.

Tonali made the move to the Premier League in the summer of 2023 when he left AC Milan to join the Magpies. While he did have an impressive start, things went downhill when he received a massive ban because of illegal betting.

He was back in action at the start of the new campaign and has been a key figure in Eddie Howe’s team. Tonali has racked up 31 appearances and has even contributed towards five goals this season. While things have been going great for him on the pitch, he hasn’t really enjoyed his time in England and is reportedly open to a return to Serie A.

Juventus want to sign Tonali

Juventus are the ones who are interested in bringing him back to Italy. The Old Lady want to add more quality to their midfield ahead of next season. Investing in Douglas Luiz hasn’t worked in their favour and they are looking to bring in a new holding midfielder who can give Thiago Motta’s team a bit more stability in the centre of the park.

They consider Tonali an ideal fit for their system and are all set to knock on the doors of Newcastle ahead of next season. With the 24-year-old’s contract at the Tyneside club running until the summer of 2028, the Old Lady will have to present a significant offer to convince the English club to part ways with one of their most valuable assets.

Douglas Luiz could go the other way

Both clubs are already in negotiations and they are discussing including a loan exchange of Douglas Luiz. While Juventus acquired his services from Aston Villa last summer for a significant fee, the transfer hasn’t worked out. He has been involved in just 21 matches and has racked up less than 800 minutes.

They are ready to part ways with him and Luiz would love to return to the Premier League where he did wonders with Villa. Any loan deal with also include a buy option worth €35 million that could be triggered in the summer of 2026. It will ensure the Old Lady avoids making a loss on their financial statements having paid a premium for him ahead of the ongoing campaign.
