Arsenal will reportedly complete a move to sign 15-year-old Scottish defensive sensation Callan Hamill from St. Johnstone in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by The Athletic, Callan Hamill will be the next highly-rated prospect to reinforce the youth ranks at Arsenal. The Gunners have sealed an agreement to sign the 15-year-old defensive sensation from St. Johnstone. They will cough up a six-figure package to land the teenage prospect, who will arrive at the North London club on July 1.
Who is Callan Hamill?
Callan Hamill is the latest highly-rated prospect to rise in prominence in his homeland. Prodigies like Ben Doak, Josh McDonald, and Dylan Reid have already moved to England, while recent reports have heavily linked Lennon Miller with Liverpool and Newcastle United, among others.
As for Hamill, the Scot is a native of Stirling and has spent his formative years thus far in his homeland, rising through the ranks at St. Johnstone. While the 15-year-old defensive sensation has yet to break into the first-team squad at his club, he has made his mark in age-group football in Scotland.
Meanwhile, Hamill’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers were also keen on signing the Scottish wonderkid before Arsenal’s emergence turned the youngster’s head.
London calling?
Arsenal’s interest in Callan Hamill is understandable. The Gunners are renowned for constantly scouring the market for the most highly-rated prospects across the world. They have recently bolstered their youth teams by signing Tommy Setford and other prodigies.
Hamill will be the latest wonderkid to join Arsenal, with the North London outfit seeing off the competition from Celtic and Rangers. However, the 15-year-old Scottish defensive sensation turned down the Scottish Premiership giants in August, while the youngster’s move to Arsenal will mean St. Johnstone will be entitled to £100,000 in cross-border compensation.
The Scot has already travelled to London multiple times to train with Arsenal’s under-18 team. The teenage sensation will be eligible to move to England after turning 16, which will happen in March. So, Hammill will formally complete his move to Arsenal on July 1.
