Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal will prioritise the signing of Newcastle United star Alexander Isak as they look to reinforce their attack.
Arsenal have been on the lookout for a new number nine for some time now. While things haven’t gone in their favour so far, the Gunners are ready to go all out for a new striker next summer. According to a report from TBR, Mikel Arteta’s team have identified Alexander Isak as their priority target.
The North London club are not happy with Gabriel Jesus’ output in the final third, while Kai Havertz is not an out-and-out striker. Over the years, they have realised that they need a proven goal scorer if they want to bring an end to their wait for the league title.
Arsenal to prioritise Isak’s signing
The Gunners have a long-standing interest in RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko. They were after his signature last summer but the player chose to continue at the German club. While they remain interested in his services, he is not their priority target at this stage.
Arteta is quite impressed by the performances of Alexander Isak who has been doing wonders for Newcastle. He has identified the Swedish international as the priority target to bolster their attack. He is a proven Premier League star which most likely gives him the edge.
While the 25-year-old is the Spanish manager’s personal choice, a potential move could collapse if Isak agrees to pen a new deal at the Tyneside club. His current deal runs until the summer of 2028 but in order to secure his long-term future, the Magpies are willing to offer him a new lucrative contract which will make him the highest-paid player in Newcastle’s history.
Arsenal ready to table an offer
According to a report from CaughtOffside, the Swedish striker is seen as the missing link in the Arsenal team and they are gearing up to make a formal offer for him. They lack a true goal scorer and are making every attempt to bring him to North London.
Apart from Newcastle’s firm stance on his future, Arsenal might even have to compete with Liverpool. The Reds have him quite high on their wishlist. They are looking to offload Darwin Nunez and sign an upgrade in that position. Isak could certainly flourish in that role and be the next leader of their attack.
The Magpies will demand in excess of £100 million to part ways with their star striker. While Arsenal and Liverpool are keen on his signature, this massive fee could cause massive problems for them.
