Manchester United eyeing Ronald Araujo as summer priority

Manchester United could eye a move for Barcelona star Ronald Araujo despite the defender penning fresh terms amid links in January.

According to Fichajes, Manchester United are interested in testing Barcelona with an offer for Ronald Araujo in the summer. The Red Devils are keen to sign the Uruguayan as part of their major spree in the next window, although any move will depend on a number of factors.

For a top player like Ronald Araujo, there will be massive interest should Barcelona hint at their willingness to sell in the summer. There was an evolving situation with the Uruguayan defender back in January. Juventus were seemingly very close to landing the centre-back, which did not please the Barcelona fans one bit.

Barcelona rejected a bid from Juventus as they sought at least €70 million for the Uruguayan, and that might be the price point that could enter the club ahead of the summer. Hence, there is a feeling the Catalans could be tempted to consider offers worth €60-70 million for the defender.

While Juventus were interested in signing Araujo, he ended up penning a new deal with Barcelona until 2031, which does show the club’s intention to keep hold of their star defender. However, financial troubles at the club would force them to consider big bids, with the Blaugrana expecting some offers to come in for the €60-70 million-rated Barcelona star.

Manchester United are keen, as they are likely to explore the idea of signing Araujo in the summer. Ruben Amorim has been making big plans in the background to get some key additions in the summer. Part of their plan will involve signing another defender. and while they would have wanted Jarrad Branthwaite, the Everton defender are unlikely to move in the summer.

Manchester United could struggle in Araujo chase

Manchester United might be the biggest club in the world, but they are not in the best of positions to challenge for honours this season, barring the Europa League. The second-tier European competition remains the only avenue for them to participate in next season’s Champions League, which might be imperative in their chances of signing players like Ronald Araujo.

Moreover, the Red Devils are in a period of transition and have multiple requirements in the market, which could restrict their funds. Hence, the chances of the Red Devils splashing big on a defender like Araujo are remote, although the player might stay committed to Barcelona, particularly in the upcoming summer window.
