Everton in transfer tussle to sign Juanlu Sanchez, make approach

Everton will compete with three other clubs to sign 21-year-old Spanish full-back Juanlu Sanchez from La Liga club Sevilla in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Juanlu Sanchez is the subject of interest from Everton. The Toffees are scouring the market for a right-back heading into the summer transfer window and have enquired about the Sevilla wide player. However, the Merseyside outfit will face stiff competition from Brighton & Hove Albion, Galatasaray, and RB Leipzig.

The Juanlu Sanchez story

Juanlu Sanchez has established himself as one of the best young right-backs in La Liga since breaking into the first-team squad at Sevilla FC. A native of Montequinto, the Spaniard spent his formative years in his homeland, passing through the academies at three clubs and graduating from the youth division at Sevilla FC.

The 21-year-old made his first-team bow for Sevilla midway through the 2021/22 season but had to wait until the 2023/24 season to establish a foothold at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium. The youngster has turned out over 50 times thus far for Los Nervionenses while chipping in with six goals and seven assists.

Meanwhile, the Spanish wide player’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Recent reports have linked the Sevilla full-back with Liverpool, but Everton will be among the four prospective suitors for his signature in the summer transfer window, with the Toffees submitting an enquiry for him.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Everton’s interest in Juanlu Sanchez is understandable. The Toffees are scouring the market for a right-back heading into the summer transfer window. While David Moyes has three right-backs in his squad, Ashley Young and Seamus Coleman are in the twilight of their careers. In addition, Nathan Patterson has struggled with fitness issues in the last few years.

So, Moyes has utilised Jake O’Brien, a centre-back, as a makeshift right-back in Everton’s last few outings. So, the Sevilla wide player has emerged as a viable target for Everton, with the Merseyside outfit approaching Los Nervionenses over a possible summer move.

However, Everton will face stiff competition from Brighton & Hove Albion, Galatasaray, and RB Leipzig for the 21-year-old Spanish wide player. It will be interesting to see if his adventure in La Liga ends by moving to Goodison Park in the summer transfer window.
