Aston Villa will reportedly look to sign 20-year-old Spanish striker Samu Aghehowa from FC Porto in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Samu Aghehowa is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans are scouring the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window. So, the FC Porto attacking prospect has emerged as a target, with Unai Emery driving the West Midlands club’s move for the Spanish centre-forward.
Samu Aghehowa and his burgeoning reputation
Samu Aghehowa has established himself as one of the best young strikers in the world since joining FC Porto from Atletico Madrid last summer. The Spaniard spent only one year with Los Rojiblancos but could not make a single appearance for the club after spending the 2023/24 campaign on loan with Deportivo Alaves.
The 20-year-old has contributed to 21 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions thus far for FC Porto this season, finding the back of the net 18 times and providing three assists. The youngster was also part of the squad that won the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics last summer.
Meanwhile, the Spanish striker’s exploits for FC Porto have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Premier League bigwigs, in particular, are keen on signing the young striker, with recent reports linking him with Chelsea. Aston Villa will also be one of the prospective suitors for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Aston Villa’s interest in Samu Aghehowa is understandable. The Villans are scouring the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window after losing Jhon Duran this past winter. While Marcus Rashford arrived from Manchester United on a loan deal until the end of the 2024/25 season, he wants a permanent move to Barcelona.
So, Aston Villa should invest in a top-notch attacker, with Samu emerging as a viable target for the West Midlands club. The 20-year-old Spaniard will not come cheap, and the report has suggested that he will cost at least €50 million.
Considering how much Duran’s sale has fetched Aston Villa, it will not be surprising to see them breaking the bank to sign a prolific attacker in the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see if the Olympic gold medalist arrives at Villa Park in the coming months.
