Tottenham ramp up efforts to sign Angel Gomes

Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly look to beat Manchester United and West Ham United to the signature of the 24-year-old LOSC Lille midfielder Angel Gomes this summer.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Angel Gomes is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. Manchester United and West Ham United are also keen on signing the LOSC Lille midfielder in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window. However, the North London giants have intensified their efforts to secure his services.

Angel Gomes and his French journey

Angel Gomes has been one of the most dependable midfielders in Ligue 1 since joining LOSC Lille from Manchester United in August 2020. The Englishman spent his formative years in his homeland and graduated from the youth division at Manchester United. However, with regular game time as a senior footballer eluding him, he departed from Old Trafford as a free agent.

The 24-year-old has been a regular for LOSC Lille in the last few seasons, turning out nearly 150 times thus far while chipping in with ten goals and 19 assists. However, Gomes will likely leave the Ligue 1 outfit as a free agent in the summer transfer window after entering the final six months of his contract. The situation has alerted several well-known clubs, including Manchester United, West Ham United, and Tottenham Hotspur.

A man in demand

The English international might feel he has unfinished business at Manchester United after failing to establish a foothold in the first-team squad in his first spell at Old Trafford. The Red Devils are keen on reinforcing their midfield unit in the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding Casemiro and Christian Eriksen’s futures. So, Gomes is a viable target for Manchester United.

Meanwhile, West Ham United’s interest in Angel Gomes is understandable. Guido Rodriguez faces an uncertain future at the London Stadium after failing to make his mark in his debut season with the East London outfit. So, Gomes is an option worth considering for West Ham United.

As for Tottenham Hotspur, Ange Postecoglou wants more firepower in the middle of the park, with the LOSC Lille midfielder emerging as a viable target. The latest report has claimed that the Lilywhites are ready to step up their interest in the 24-year-old Englishman as they look to beat the competition to his signature in the summer transfer window.

Tottenham, Manchester United, and West Ham United might not offer UEFA Champions League football. So, the North London outfit must beat the competition by proposing an attractive project to the English midfielder as they look to seal a Bosman move.
