Tottenham have immediate concerns about Son Heung-min operating at the highest levels, as they could consider moving away from the club captain.
According to Give Me Sport, Tottenham have major concerns over the future of club captain Son Heung-min following a major dip in form. Spurs are already thinking about making fundamental changes to their frontline, especially in the South Korean’s position, which could see the skipper depart with a year left on his deal.
Tottenham have endured a miserable season, with the UEFA Europa League being the only hope they have in this campaign. They are currently in the bottom half of the table, and the big reason has been the massive injuries they have had to deal with, as well as the loss of form in some formidable stars.
Chief among those is skipper Son Heung-min, who has had a terrible season by his usual standards. The South Korean still has a respectable haul of ten goals and eight assists in 34 games across all competitions; it does not bode well with how Ange Postecoglou likes the team to play in the attacking phase.
Tottenham did well in protecting their investment in the £190,000-a-week star after they triggered a one-year extension in his contract. Hence, with Son Heung-min’s deal now set to expire in 2026, Spurs are considering his future ahead of the summer.
The 32-year-old could still attract massive interest from Saudi Clubs, while Barcelona are also keen, which could see Spurs consider offers coming for their skipper. There are considerable doubts about whether he is suited to play at the highest levels at Tottenham, which could see the winger leave when the summer window opens.
Tottenham making plans without Son Heung-min?
The signing of Mathys Tel in January was probably the first signal of intent from Tottenham ahead of what may transpire in Son’s future. There are talks of signing a new striker, and when Dominic Solanke returns, he will likely take his rightful place at the tip of the front three, while the probable investment in the Frenchman shows he is someone they want to count on for the immediate future.
On paper, Tel could potentially replace Son Heung-min as the main attacker out wide on the left wing, while Solanke and another striker will take the No.9 role, which does leave Son’s future in doubt. Tottenham’s concerns over the South Korean have big validities, which could see them phase their club captain out starting next season and probably even sell him for a nominal fee.
