Liverpool will reportedly look to sign 25-year-old Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak in a part-exchange deal involving Darwin Nunez in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Football Insider, Alexander Isak is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds are scouring the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window and have set their sights on the Newcastle United attacker. They will look to secure his services in a part-exchange deal involving Darwin Nunez.
The rise and rise of Alexander Isak at Newcastle United
Alexander Isak has gone from strength to strength since joining Newcastle United from Real Sociedad in a big-money deal in August 2022. The Swede was among the most promising young attacking prospects in the world before arriving at St. James’ Park but could not fulfil his potential in his earlier stints.
The 25-year-old has been exceptional thus far this season, amassing 19 goals and five assists in 29 appearances across all competitions. As for Darwin Nunez, while the Uruguayan international has shown flashes of brilliance during his stint with Liverpool, he has not been consistent enough in the last few seasons.
Nunez has contributed to only 11 goals in 34 appearances across all competitions, finding the back of the net six times and providing five assists. The striker’s spell with Liverpool might end in the summer transfer window, with recent reports claiming the Reds are ready to cash in on him. However, Liverpool might offer Nunez in the deal to sign Isak from Newcastle United.
Move across the Premier League on the cards?
Liverpool’s interest in Alexander Isak is understandable. The Reds are scouring the market for a prolific striker heading into the summer transfer window amid their over-dependence on Mohamed Salah. With Salah’s long-term future uncertain, Liverpool must sign at least one productive attacker in the coming months.
So, Isak has emerged as a viable target for Liverpool, with recent reports claiming the 25-year-old Swede is eager to join the Merseyside outfit in the summer transfer window. However, with Newcastle United demanding over £100 million to part ways with the striker, Liverpool will aim to bring the price down by offering Darwin Nunez in the part-exchange deal.
The Reds value Nunez at around £60 million, making the part-exchange deal an ideal operation for them. However, it is unclear if Newcastle United will be ready to accept a part-swap arrangement for Isak, who Arne Slot reportedly regards as his ideal signing.
