Liverpool have added Valencia star Cristhian Mosquera to their list of defensive reinforcements amid a need to strengthen at the back.
According to Fichajes, Cristhian Mosquera is the latest defender to be added to Liverpool’s shortlist ahead of the summer. There is a big indication that Arne Slot wants to add a young defensive sensation either as a replacement for Virgil van Dijk or as an addition to the backline, with the Balencia star now part of a promising list.
Liverpool are headed towards one of their most important summer windows in many years, as Arne Slot wants to strengthen the squad as per his specifications. The Dutch manager does have a lot of impending problems to deal with regarding the futures of influential trio Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk.
The latter’s departure would make the need for a centre-back signing imperative, as Liverpool are ready to accelerate plans to sign one, irrespective of whether the Dutchman departs. Liverpool have some promising names on their list, although there is a big indication that Arne Slot wants to bring multiple central defenders in the summer, and preferably one in the younger mould.
Liverpool have identified Dean Huijsen as a top target, and rightly so, given the Dutch defender has performed admirably in his debut season in the Premier League with Bournemouth. He has a straightforward release clause, but given the cost involved in this operation, the Merseysiders might consider another cheaper option.
Cristhian Mosquera could be that player, as the 20-year-old defensive prospect has massive interest coming from Premier League sides. Liverpool could face competition from Arsenal and Manchester City for the defender, although they can position themselves as the favourites should they make an early approach.
Liverpool can sign Cristhian Mosquera
The 20-year-old defender has been good enough for La Liga club Valencia this season, featuring prominently for Los Che this season. His current deal expires in 2026, which makes him a reasonable target financially for Liverpool or any other side that is looking to add a promising young defender.
The only issue could be competition, although the recent deal between Liverpool and Valencia for goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvilli could help the Merseysiders in the pursuit of the 20-year-old. Hence, Liverpool could potentially have an upperhand in this chase, as Cristhian Mosquera does seem like a good addition to their backline as Arne Slot looks to strenghthen the central defensive depth.
